Since it was founded in 1889, the University Clinic Hamburg-Eppendorf has been one of the leading clinics in Europe.
With over 1,700 beds for patients, its own research facilities, various therapy centers and outpatient clinics, the UKE is almost a district in itself. There are also own training centers and other medical departments.
Last year, the hospital had over half a million patients, including over 100,000 in hospital. With more than 11,000 employees in 14 departments, there is a huge infrastructure behind it.
Overall, the university hospital consists of around 100 buildings and premises. Due to the long history of the facility, there are also various listed buildings. In addition to the clinic, the building complex of the UKE also includes a day care center, several bunker systems from wartime and even its own museum.
